WordPress Facts

WordPress is BIG

WordPress is the most widely used website software in the world. The website is database driven, as opposed to pages of plain HTML. That means the content of the pages is stored in the database, and when web pages are viewed over the Internet, the content comes from the database, and the templates come from inside the WordPress system. The site has a custom designed theme, and it uses various software add-ons called plugins, to enhance and extend the core features of WordPress. Some of those plugins are commercial, from third-party vendors, and some are developed in-house by dev teams.

WordPress History

First launched in 2003 as a blogging platform, WordPress software now powers over 40% of all websites on the Internet. It has over 60% of the CMS (Content Management System) marketshare, and is used by many top brands of the world.

WordPress Versatility

WordPress has a user-friendly interface for editing website content. Besides blogs, WordPress sites can manage many types of pages, including highly customized designs, web applications, and integrations with enterprise systems like marketing automation, CRM, and ecommerce. It has a flexible code base, that allows software developers to enhance and extend the functionality and features of the core software. Many corporate websites have a highly customized installation of WordPress. This allows for enhanced corporate branding, custom features, and other enhancements to make the website easier to maintain

WordPress Around the World

WordPress is a global platform, with excellent language support. It is translated into over 65 languages. Not only for the web pages that it displays, but also for the back-end (administrative) interface. This allows editors and admins to work with the software in their own language.
